DIY Shelf Makeover
Super excited to share this fun makeover I did for a display shelf in my studio! This could be done with anything that's pretty cute to start with but you want to liven it up a bit!! Here are some things you will need...
1. Tools to deconstruct the shelf
2. Gold spray paint
3. A big piece of cardboard
4. Cute items to accessorize your shelf when you're done!
Let's talk about the gold spray paint. There are SO many tones of gold out there so head over Pinterest to search for those who have already done the trials with different brands of gold spray paint and pick your favorite. My favorite is Rust-oleum Universal Metallic Paint & Primer In One in Pure Gold.
Now, let's get to business...
First, deconstruct the shelf. Taping off is so much work so if you're able too just take the shelf apart. I used a wrench and allen wrench to take off the wooden slats.
Second, place the pieces you will be spraying on a large piece of cardboard (if anyone needs any I always have a ton). Read the instructions on the can and FOLLOW THEM! Be sure to spray correctly so you don't get drips AND let it dry completely before hanging back up. It's also a good idea to spray the front of the screws if they will show like mine will.
Third, once everything is dry, reconstruct the shelf and properly hang it. If you do not hit a stud be sure to get wall anchors if you will be placing valuable or heavier items on the shelf.
Finally, decorate it by layering tall and short items together in groups of 2-3 along the shelf. Staying the same color tone but having 2-3 different colors on the shelf is super pleasing to the eye.
